We are very pleased to announce that our latest project to transform an individual bedroom (cubicle 4) at Caroline Thorpe ward is complete!

Following our fundraising campaign and a generous donation of £16,000 from the Morrisons Foundation, we have completely refurbished the room. It’s now a more comfortable place to stay for children who need to spend longer periods of time in hospital.

North Devon and Torridge District councillors also supported our campaign. These funds have gone towards extras in the room to entertain the children who use it. This includes new wall mounted smart TVs, games console and digital art on the walls. A new chair bed is also making things more comfortable for parents who sleep over, allowing them to stay close to their child all night. These investments will help make stays on the Caroline Thorpe Children’s Ward a more comfortable experience for local children and their families.

Charity Founder and Trustee, Jacky Massos says: “Having raised enough funds to complete the project, we were a little worried that the Coronavirus pandemic would put everything on hold. But thankfully, we were able to push on with the transformation and the room now looks amazing! Caroline Thorpe children’s ward is used by thousands of children every year, many of whom will spend time in Cubicle 4. It’s already making a big difference to their experience on the ward and we’ve had some lovely feedback from staff and patients alike.”

Adrian Horsley, Morrisons Foundation Advisor from the supermarket’s Head Office said, “I’m really pleased that we were able to help such a great charity.  Knowing that our support will make a genuine difference to children receiving treatment and their families really does make me proud. Helping local charities is at the heart of what the Foundation is all about and I’m so happy that we were able to provide this grant.”

Our next project

As well as helping families who have a child diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, we carry out enhancements at the children’s ward at North Devon District Hospital. Our next mini project will be to provide new furniture for the children’s play room on the ward. If you would like to support our efforts, you can donate online or fundraise for us.
