Enhancements at Caroline Thorpe children's ward

One of our enhancement projects at Caroline Thorpe children’s ward

Care for Kids North Devon provides instant financial assistance to families who have a child diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. This may be a cancer, heart condition, cystic fibrosis or a head injury. Due to North Devon’s rural location, all seriously ill children are now treated in specialist children’s hospitals outside the area. For families in North Devon, this can mean the loss of earnings, subsistence and travel costs for parents traveling and staying in Bristol, Oxford, Birmingham or London.

Care for Kids North Devon provides a lump sum to help alleviate financial concerns for families in this situation, whilst they adjust to having a very sick child. To date, Care for Kids has supported 120 local families with instant financial assistance. In some instances these families have also received secondary financial assistance packages.

We provide assistance for families of children receiving care through the children’s ward or clinics of North Devon District Hospital (NDDH) or specialist hospitals related to NDDH.

We also enhance the Caroline Thorpe children’s ward at NDDH with little extras that make life more bearable on the ward. Find out about our enhancement projects and how you can help.
