The results are in – Barnstaple 10k was a huge success again!

The Barnstaple 10k, Care for Kids North Devon’s biggest race yet, saw 400 runners take to the streets of Barnstaple on Sunday (7 July).

The event sold out for the third year running and is estimated to have raised £8,600 for the local charity. These funds will be used to provide financial support to the families of children with life threatening illnesses.

James Pugsley from Bideford was the first to cross the finish line, in a time of 34. 41. Keith Shapland took second place at 36.18 and Michael Clarke from Mole Valley Farmers was the third fastest, with a time of 36.56.

The fastest female was Joanne Page, who finished in a time of 42.36. She was closely followed by Samantha Baker from North Devon Road Runners, who completed the race in 43.30. Third female to cross the finish line was Amy Alford from Team Torridge with a time of 45.39.

And finally, Team Torridge took home the trophy for fastest team at this year’s Barnstaple 10k. Congratulations and thanks to all the teams for their efforts.

“Thanks to everyone who took part in this year’s 10k, the volunteers, sponsors, cake makers, photographers and of course all the runners and their supporters. 10km is a challenge, whether you are an experienced runner or a beginner!

“I would like to congratulate everyone for the effort they made on Sunday. All the money raised from race entries, sponsorship and cake sales will be ploughed back in to our small charity, and will make a massive difference to local families in North Devon who are facing very difficult times.”

Care for Kids North Devon also carries out projects to enhance the Caroline Thorpe children’s ward at North Devon District Hospital. Last year the charity refurbished one of the isolation treatment rooms at the ward (cubicle 5). The charity is currently working to raise funds to refurbish another treatment room (cubicle 4). Feedback from the families using the isolation rooms has been very encouraging. It has made a big difference to those using the space therefore this has inspired the charity to continue its fundraising efforts.
